Current meter records from Arlindo

The Arlindo experiment included three current meter moorings, two of which were recovered. The recovered moorings were in the Makassar Strait, which lies between Borneo and Celebes.

The accession numbers shown below refer to the OSU Buoy Group's online database, where each file is identified by a number. In the database and also on this disk, each file has a name that encodes its accession number. Thus the ASCII (stranger format) version of the file whose accession number is 1234 can be found on this disk as rcm01234.zip, and the netCDF version is stored here as rcm01234.cdf.

The data were recorded with ADCPs and Aanderaa RCM8 current meters. The Aanderaa records are listed in the table below. This disk also contains a data report for the Arlindo experiment which shows plots of the current records and various statistics. You can reach it by clicking here.

In addition to the 9 Aanderaa records listed above, data from two RDI ADCPs are available. Both ADCPs were positioned at a depth of about 150 meters, one at Makassar 1 and the other at Makassar 2. Neither instrument ran for the full length of the experiment. At Makassar 1 the time series are approximately 222 days long but contain some gaps. Those from Makassar 2 range from 51 days to 95 days in length, and also are gappy. All of the bins (except those too near the ocean surface) are available here. These data have been placed in two zip archives named mak1adcp.zip and mak2adcp.zip. Each bin is a separate file within an archive. All of the bins from Makassar 1 are in mak1adcp.zip and all those from Makassar 2 are in mak2adcp.zip. You can click on the links below to download the zip archives.

The individual bin files have the OSU stranger format, and have names (e.g., mak1_140.str) that endcode the mooring name and bin depth.
